Chesham Youth Theatre has been forced to close. We were always reliant on adult volunteers and the enthusiasm of our members to keep the youth theatre going. Sadly, following the departure of our previous Chairman, no other volunteers were forthcoming to supervise meeting and run workshops. Geoff Mendoza, who has been heavily involved in the running of CYT since the '70s, being unable to keep up the running of the group single handedly, was reluctantly forced to disband it. I am sure I speak for very many people who were part of CYT over the decades in expressing my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Geoff for all his time and work. CYT was a group where many have felt able to belong over a long period of time and the willingness of members, such as myself, to contribute to the running of the group over that time is testament to its importance to them.
This site will remain online as a legacy site. Anyone trying to find a similar group might find the links page useful. It includes a number of umbrella sites for amateur dramatics and also links to sites of local interest including local councils. Any reliable person interested in reviving the youth theatre, who is able to commit the necessary time and enthusiasm to do so should contact Geoff Mendoza.
Chesham Youth Theatre is a lively, enthusiastic drama group for young people serving Chesham and the surrounding area. CYT aims to give young people a chance to experience all aspects of theatre producton and performance in a friendly and surportive environment. We operate an open membership policy. Anyone between the ages of eleven and eighteen with an interest in drama can join, you don't have to audition and you don't have to have any dramatic experience. We strive to keep subscriptions affordable as part of our commitment to an open membership policy. CYT is run on a purely voluntary basis and more volunteers are always sought to help supervise or to bring any special skills to the group. If you would like to help please get in contact. We aim to stage two main shows every year with the rest of the time taken up by workshops and smaller performances such as street theatre. No member who wants to perform is ever left uncast and there are opportunities to take on backstage roles as well. We have also made occasional trips out, for example to the BBC museum in London and to see Alice in Wonderland at the Barbican. We meet on Mondays between 7:00 and 8:30 at the White Hill Centre.
