In 1988, he wrote and directed a highly successful musical, based on "Pilgrim's Progress", for churches in Bristol and Bath, and another commissioned musical, "Knibb", was performed in Bristol in 1992. In the same year, an open-air pageant, commissioned by his local Town Council, was written and directed by him and performed to appreciative audiences by a cast of over 100 in front of Devizes castle. Since then, further pagents have been commissioned and performed in the local area, with considerable success. Recently a book of his poems has been published.
He has toured widely, both in this country and abroad, with groups of young people, writing new material for them which, in addition to original plays for adults, he publishes himself. In 1986, he took early retirement from a senior teaching post, since when he has been busily engaged in freelance work: running workshops on many aspects of drama, including Speech, Street Theatre, Drama in Worship, Playwriting, Acting, Directing and Reading in Public; adjudicating at various Festivals in many parts of the country; writing, both plays and poetry; and writing for, and directing, his own group of Players at St James' Church, Trowbridge in Wiltshire, where he lives with his wife, Iris.
